Welcome to Toowoomba
Toowoomba is located about an hour and a half west of Brisbane and is approximately a 2 hour drive from the Gold Coast. While a day trip is possible, you may prefer accommodation for the Friday and/or Saturday night.
Weather
Toowoomba's average temperature in July is 4 degrees to 19 degrees. But if we get a cold snap we can see 0 degrees and below on a cold morning. For this reason we have an air-conditioned venue to ensure both competitors and spectators are comfortable.
Accommodation
Here are our suggestions for accommodation but there are many options including bed and breakfasts and cottages to rent if you are looking for accommodation to share or for the whole family. Ruthven Street has many reputable motels including the city Golf Club and Jacaranda Place Motor Inn and tree lined Margaret Street which boasts a number of bed and breakfasts and motels.
-
For a convenient city location near restaurants and only 8 minutes drive to the venue is Toowoomba Central Plaza Apartments from $176 for 2.
-
The Blue Cottage on Kent Street offers 3 bedrooms and sleeps up to 6 people but requires a two night booking. It is less than 10 minutes from the venue also. Banksia Cottage is another self contained option around 10 minutes away also.
-
Comfort Inn Glenfield offers affordable, quality accommodation just 750m away from our venue from $120 for two.
-
Eastgate Motel on the Range is affordable 4 star accommodation. It offers motel suites from $134 per night for 2 people. They also offer family suites as well as one and two bedroom bungalows.
-
Best Western Ambassador on Ruthven offers a number of specials and discounts worth looking into. A standard queen suite is $174 for 2 people.
-
Jacaranda Place Motor Inn is a short 3 minute drive to the venue. Standard rooms can be booked for as little as $120 for 2. 2 bedroom units can sleep up to 6 at a very affordable rate.
Competition Running Order
The competition times will only be finalized the week before the competition.
Competitor Arrival / Backstage
Competitors are asked to arrive at the venue one hour prior to their section (except for the first section of the day who are asked to arrive just a half an hour prior to the commencement of the event). Competitors are to collect their number in the foyer on arrival, have hair and make up done, number pinned on (safety pins will be provided) and make their way to the marshalling area where competitors will be ushered to the green room to relax and prepare for their turn to perform. To ensure all younger competitors are comfortable please pack a small backpack for the time they will spend backstage. This backpack can include coloring-in or activity books, cards, a book to read, a water bottle and snacks (no products containing nuts or eggs, please). Our team of volunteers will be caring for all competitors and keeping the atmosphere positive and relaxed including story telling, warming up and simple games. Competitors will be required to remain backstage until awards for their section are presented. All belongings will then be collected and competitors will be taken to the foyer for collection by parents.
Competition Etiquette
Please help us to run a relaxed but organized day by refraining from walking in and out of the auditorium between sections. Doors will be closed at the commencement of each age group to ensure distraction is kept to a minimum. We ask that the audience is quiet during performances. Inside the auditorium, we ask that all spectators support every competitor and the judges by keeping noise to a minimum. There will be no photography or videography allowed. One professional photographer will take stage and backstage shots that will be made available to purchase after the event. And a second photographer will be setup for portrait shots in the foyer.
New to physie in 2015?
For those of you who are new to physie in 2015, an interclub is not only a great opportunity to prepare competitors for zone and national competitions later in the year, but it is also a great way to be a part of your club and build club spirit!
Some families will make it a day trip, while others will stay the night and visit a new town! Whatever you decide to do, it is our job to ensure the day is a great experience for competitors and spectators alike.
